Interactive Project

The brief is here and below.

Using Wix, you will create a portfolio website, either

A for yourself as a media practitioner (filmmaker, graphic designer, motion designer, video game artist, etc) or

B a client (who has come to you wanting you to make the website to showcase their skills as a media practitioner)

You will do research, planning and present your ideas. You must show how the site develops as you design it, and log the decisions you make (eg on font, layout, images).

Follow the below Process.

Examples of Portfolio sites for different sectors:

Process:

WEEK ONE

  1. Analyse the requirements of the brief: initial thoughts, whether you have any questions, what ideas you have, which option you will choose, how many pages you can design in the time you have, any inspirational sites (or apps or designers) you know about already.
  2. Create a Wix site URL and choose a suitable template. It doesn’t need to be the final one for now.
  3. From your hub blog go to Layout options and create an external link called Interactive Project that goes to the Wix site.
  4. Remind yourself of the difference between primary and secondary research and write it up on the blog.
  5. Define ‘portfolio website’.
  6. Primary research: Research a range of portfolio websites from artists, designers, filmmakers (others as required). Use a variety of research methods (Google, Instagram etc), write up your findings.
  7. Secondary research: Discuss with others in break-out rooms the examples you all found, what you liked about them or not. Discuss where the others found their examples.
  8. Evaluate the quality of your research methods – did you find lots of examples, what could you do differently to find more, or better examples?
  9. Compare three examples you and others found and evaluate (strengths and weaknesses) use screengrabs and bullet-point/annotate talking about use of:

Layout, colour, font, target audience, use of images, ease of navigation, anything else relevant

WEEK TWO

  1. Create pre-production materials for your own Wix site, under these headings:
Target audience
Font sheet
Colour design
Website map ‘wireframe’ (Word or Illustrator or Photoshop)

2. As you’re developing your ideas write up why you made those choices.

3.
Design three rough homepage designs (sketches are fine).

4.
Present to peers

5.
Evaluate feedback.

6.
Move forward with one design.

Reach final design stage.

7. Present again, and

8. Re-design where needed.

Do the evaluation questions (these can be done after the final design deadline):

EVALUATION

What issues did you face?

How did you work around those issues/find solutions?

How pleased were you with the final Wix site?

What did you feel you did well?

What would improve it?

FAQs

Please write FAQs to your teacher and they will be addressed here.

Where do we write up our pre-production work (the research)

We suggest creating a page on the Wix site called Process or adding it to Blogger and linking from Wix site. You wouldn't show this to a client usually of course, it's just so we can mark your work.

How long do we have for the project?

Check out the deadline on the link above.

How many websites should we research?

5-10, or, as many as you can in the time you've been given to research (at least an hour).

How do I link Wix site to blogger?

copy the Wix URL.

Go to Layout in blogger.

Go to Page list - Header (or similar, every template is slightly different). Click on pen icon.

Add external link and paste the Wix site address there. In the title call it Interactive.

What is a wireframe?
